Anchorage Alaska’s Housing Market Cooling Off

The decline in home sales for Anchorage Alaska wasn’t particularly evident until spring of this year. This seems a little late since much of the country began to see sales slipping as early as the second half of 2005.

The volume of sales in Anchorage in August were down about 11 percent from its peak set in August of last year, or about 5 percent lower from the first eight months of this year. Although the market has experienced a slow down the numbers are actually very good for this Alaskan city. There’s a 6.5 month supply of homes on the market, compared with a 10 month supply nationally. The market for condos and homes priced below $300,000 are still doing very well, while more expensive properties are taking a little longer to sell.
